You know the spiel: New Yorker's are busybodies whose speeds are constantly at the maximum. Its crucial to grind just as much as we dream, but its also equally important to set aside one-on-one time with our BFFs to unwind. These outings--or "Girl dates" as we like to call them -- are essential to the soul and offer sanctum, laughter, and good vibes all around. We spent a Saturday with friends Kate and Paulena at their go-to date spot, Elvis Guesthouse, to find out about their friendship and more.
How long have you two been friends and how did you meet?
K: We’ve been friends since the beginning of the school year. I was attending Bard College at the time and interested in transferring to NYU. I posted on Instagram about wanting to know more about NYU - asking if anyone attended and could answer my questions. Paulena reached out and we very awkwardly met for coffee which turned into a full day hang of shopping and walking around the city.
P: Kate was living upstate and I was living in the city so our friendship was long distance for a little. But now we hang out every day and tell each other everything!
K: It’s so nice to have someone who feels like a sister because I’ve never had one.
P: Even though I have three sisters, none of them live in New York so it’s comforting to have a sister bond with Kate.
How often do you two get together to hang out and unwind?
P: We see each other every day, for the most part. We share all of our clothes - Odds are when you see us together, we are wearing something from the other’s closet.
K: We love to hang out in the park, go out to dinner in our neighborhood, go to the movies, and hang out in bed and scroll through Etsy (always on the hunt for the perfect mule sandals!).
P: This summer, we are looking for a farm upstate to volunteer on and help raise baby animals.
K: We are dreaming of playing with baby lambs!
What is it about Elvis Guesthouse that makes it the go-to spot?
P: It’s so cute and has a lot of seating which is nice because you never have to awkwardly stand around.
K: The space is not overwhelming, which is important because we are both super shy.
Best night spent here?
K: It’s always fun when there’s a big party and the place is packed. Elvis is a great watering hole for cool, young people.
P: I love running into friends I haven’t seen in awhile and chatting over a good dance and a cranberry soda (our favorite drink).
